26/04/2017 Hale Lighthouse & Carr Lane Pools

Whitethroat: Hoping to see one of the Channel Wagtails that have been reglarly seen at Carr Lane Pools Gary and I decided to spend the afternoon at this sunny part of Cheshire.
Wheatear: We could only manage to pick up a couple of the standard Yellow Wags but we enjoyed watching them along with Blacktailed Godwits and Dunlin dropping in from Town Lane.

Once we were satisfied that we had searched Carr Lane Pools adequately we moved on down to the Lighthouse, starting from Within Way.
It was here we heard a Lesser Whitethroat calling on Within Way but only managed to see another Common Whitethroat. There were also Yellow Wags flittering around the crops in the surrounding fields.

Towards the shore line we picked up large flocks of Dunlin, Black-tailed Godwit and some nice Wheatear.
Hale Lighthouse and Carr Lane Pools is a smashing place, particularly when the sun is out.
Common Swift: Before setting off back home I thought we would chance it again and give Carr Lane another go for Channel Wags, but again was only rewareded with the standard variety.
We were however treated to some low flybys from some Swift and bumped in to Dot, who as ever, is always a pleasure to chat with.

Lesser Whitethroat: I spent the week surveying alongside Mr David Haigh a legend from the Wirral lot. He and I came across a pair of Lesser Whitethroat on a Breeding Birds Survey and I decided to go back in my free time and try for some pictures.
In typical fashion the birds were extremely difficult to pin down, I must have taken at least 300 frames consisting of the back of the bird, blurred branches and tantalising glimpses of the skulky bird.

In the end one of the birds flew across the road and and gave me some blinding full frontal views for only a few seconds before dipping back in to the undergrowth.

This gave me enough time to rattle off a couple of frames capturing these two beauties, time well spent.

Tawny Owl: One another trip out earlier in the week Dave and I were joined by Kenny D. We took a long walk in the village we were staying in and caught up with the local Tawny Owl and several Spot fly.

05/05/2012 Chester Meadows

Chiffchaff: Linnets and Greenfinch also around, Chiffchaff singing high in the trees along the banks of the Dee and hundreds of Swallow and House Martins flying low over the meadow.

Lesser Whitethroat: Chester meadows can at times be very boring at times for birding, but sometimes you get a nice surprise. Today and yesterday there has been a Lesser Whitethroat calling it has been showing well, although it was very tricky to snap a photograph as it keep itself deep within hawthorn bushes in the middle of the meadow.

Sorry this was the best of the lot, one I will definitely improve on!
