Long-tailed Duck: After working the weekend and unable to find enough people who wanted to go to either Essex for the Serin or Aberdeen for the Harlequin Duck I decided to settle for another duck, not a mega but much more local.








This was my second attempt at this bird, my first try I ended up getting very wet and very cold, this time I was just very cold.









Upon my arrival the bird was right out in the far middle of the lake before flying toward the southern edge giving me some excellent views.

Long Tailed Duck: After seeing the Baikal Teal I headed off to Junction Pool to see the juvenile Long Tailed Duck. It was showing well although this low winter sun did me no favors.  

On the way back to the car I spotted the GW Egret on the marsh,  not bad for an hour at Marshside. 

01/04/2013 Gunners Park, Essex

Long Tailed Duck: Last week I took a trip to Essex to see my family, but I managed to pack my binoculars and camera!

Before I go anywhere for a prolonged period, I usually check out the local birding sites and latest reports where I saw that a female Long Tailed Duck had been seen at Gunners Park near Southend on Sea.






So on my first day there I took (or dragged, depending on who you talk to) the whole family to see their first Long Tailed Duck and what a duck, OK its not a super male but still a little cracker.
